Two Naxals were killed in an encounter by security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma on Monday morning, police said.

Chhattisgarh: Two Naxals were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma on Monday morning, police said. An encounter broke out between the Naxals and security forces in the Danteshpuram forest under Bheji police station.

A search operation is underway in the area.

According to sources, Golapalli, SOS Commander Madkam Erra carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh and Podiam Bhime, wife of naxal leader Erra with a reward of Rs 3 lakh were gunned down by the jawans.

A cache of explosives and an automatic weapon were recovered from the encounter site, he said.

The naxals were planning to execute ‘Aranpur ‘ like attack but their attempt was thwarted.

Earlier this month, on August 26, Naxalites carried out a IED blast and blew up a police bus carrying a team of the state police’s District Reserve Guard (DRG) in Aranpur, Dantewada. As many as 10 Chhattisgarh police personnel and a bus driver were martyred in this blast. The police team was returning after an anti-Naxalite operation.

At least seven Naxalites including three minors were arrested by Chhattisgarh Police on Sunday in connection with the Dantewada Naxal attack in which 10 DRG jawans and a driver were killed.

According to the report, the three minors have been sent to a juvenile home and four other accused have been sent to judicial remand.
