Third wave of Covid 19 will be more dangerous: CSIR Director

If you are thinking that the risk of coronavirus is over because of the ongoing vaccination drive across India, then you are wrong as Director General of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Shekhar C Mande has warned that the COVID-19 crisis in India is far from being over.

The CSIR Director, while addressing a digital event organized by the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) on “India’s response to Covid-19 from S & T perspective,” also alerted that the third wave of Covid 19 will be more dangerous and we may have to face grave consequences if do not continue to remain alert.

Mande said that to overcome the current situation, it is necessary to avoid the crisis situations arising out of climate change and over-dependence on fossil fuels along with continuous cooperation in the institutions. Such a dangerous situation can pose a threat to the whole of humanity.

He clarified that India is still far from achieving community immunity and people should wear masks to avoid virus infection. Apart from this, people should also follow measures like social distance and hand cleaning.

He warned the people and the scientific community about the feeling of complacency and said that if the third wave of epidemic comes, it would be a more dangerous situation than the challenge which the country has faced till now.

Mande also hoped that the Covid-19 vaccines would be effective against different forms of the coronavirus.
