Tamil Nadu: 6 Killed As Fire Breaks Out At Firecracker Factory In Virudhunagar

Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu): A massive fire broke out at a firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar on Friday.

Around six people died and more than 20 others suffered injuries in a series of blasts in a firecracker factory  at 1.30 pm at Mariyammal Fireworks in Achankulam near Sattur in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be established, as the bodies are charred beyond recognition.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel were trying to to put out the flames as of late Friday afternoon. With the chemicals still bursting, firemen were struggling to enter the unit.

Fire tenders from Sattur, Vembakottai and Sivakasi have been pressed into service.

An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each has been approved from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to a fire in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. Rs. 50,000 would be given to those seriously injured,informs Prime Minister’s Office
