Suspected bird strike on IndiGo flight enroute from Nagpur to Kolkata, Abid Ruhi, Senior Airport Director, Nagpur Airport informs

Nagpur: There has been a suspected bird strike on IndiGo’s 6E812 Nagpur-Kolkata flight. We are trying to analyze what has happened. Abid Ruhi, Senior Airport Director, Nagpur Airport, Maharashtra confirmed the information.

Reports further added that the IndiGo flight was carrying as many as 272 passengers. An official statement from the airline is awaited. Data from flight tracking portal flightradar24.com showed that the aircraft was diverted back to Nagpur.

The bird strike on Indigo took place shortly after takeoff and supposedly damaged the aircraft’s nose. IndiGo Spokesperson on today’s incident said, “IndiGo flight 6E 812 operating from Nagpur to Kolkata on 02 September 2025 encountered a bird strike soon after take-off.”

The Spokesperson further added, “As a precautionary step, pilots decided to turn back and the flight landed safely at the Nagpur airport. Due to the requirement of necessary inspection and maintenance of the aircraft, the flight has been cancelled for the day.”

Recently on July 9, a Delhi-bound plane from Patna had to make an emergency landing after reportedly being bird hit. According to reports, the flight had as many as 169 passengers on board. The flight (6E509) landed safely at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna.

In an official statement the Patna airport authorities informed, “IGO5009 Patna to Delhi reported bird hit after takeoff at 0842 IST, one dead bird in pieces found on runway during inspection. The same was advised to the aircraft through the Approach Control Unit.”

Further, “message received from the approach control unit that aircraft requested to come back to Patna due to vibration in one engine. Local stand-by declared and aircraft landed safely at 0903 IST on runway 7. All passengers are safe,” the statement issued by Patna airport added.
