Deoria: A decomposed body of a young man was discovered in the water tank of Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College in Uttar-Prdesh’s Deoria.

The students and staff had been using water from a tank that contained a decomposed body for nearly ten days, officials said.

After students and staff members complained of foul smell,  authorities inspected the supply line but found nothing. When the tank lid was later removed, the young man’s bloated and fully decomposed body was found inside.

After receiving information, the Sadar Kotwali Police, Crime Branch, and Forensic team reached the site. The badly decomposed body was removed late at night in the presence of police and sent for post-mortem examination. Officials said water had been supplied to both OPD and ward buildings during this period.

Forensic experts also collected water and environmental samples to determine how long the body had been submerged and how much the water quality had deteriorated.

Following the discovery, Deoria District Magistrate Divya Mittal was appointed as the investigation officer. The college’s principal, Dr Rajesh Kumar Barnwal, has been temporarily relieved of his duties and Dr Rajni, head of the Anatomy Department at Etah Medical College, has been appointed as the acting principal until further orders.

The tank has since been sealed, and an alternative water supply has been provided via tankers.
