Six Killed,One Injured In A Quarry Blast In Chikkaballapur In Karnataka
Karnataka: Atleast six people were killed and one injured while trying to dispose of gelatin sticks at a stone quarry site in Hirenagavalli village of Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka on Monday night.
According to reports, the blast occurred when gelatin sticks used for blasting were being transported in a vehicle.
Health Minister and District-in-charge Minister Dr K Sudhakar visited the accident site. Where Six people were killed, one injured in a quarry blast, the incident happened due to large amounts of explosives.
Sudhakar said stringent action would be taken against the owners of the mines, who had stored the explosives illegally.
This tragedy comes just a month after a similar mishap was reported from Shivamogga district where six quarry labourers died in a quarry site due to an accidental explosion of a similar nature.
Both the Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to the families of the victims and assured strict action.
In a tweet, PM Modi said, “Pained by the loss of lives due to a mishap at Chikkaballapur in Karnataka. Condolences to the bereaved families. Praying that the injured recover quickly.”
