Sikkim CM announces 12-month maternity and 1-month paternity leave for govt employees

Chief Minister of Sikkim on Wednesday, announced 12-month maternity leave and 1-month paternity leave for government employees of the state.

Gangtok: Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang on Wednesday, announced 12-month maternity leave and 1-month paternity leave for government employees of the state.

During the gathering of the Sikkim State Civil Service Officers’ Association, the Chief Minister revealed the government’s plan to introduce a significant enhancement in leave benefits for its employees.

The Sikkim government will introduce a progressive paternity leave policy. The leave will grant male employees 1-month leave to support their spouses during childbirth and assist in early childcare.

Chief Minister Tamang also added that necessary modifications will be made to the existing service rules. These changes will be implemented promptly to ensure that eligible government employees can avail of the new leave policies without any delay.

Highlighting the significance of the new leave policies, Sikkim CM emphasized that the well-being of government employees and their families is a top priority for the state administration.

While the Chief Minister announced the new leave policies, specific details regarding the implementation and others related to it are yet to be officially notified. However, it is expected that the government will release a comprehensive document outlining the eligibility criteria, procedures, and benefits associated with the new policies.

As part of the meeting, CM Tamang also extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all new IAS and SCS (Sikkim Civil Services) officers.
