Seven Maoists killed in Chhattisgarh encounter

Raipur:  As many as even Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday morning.

Police recovered one AK-47, two .303 rifles and other arms and ammunition from the spot.

Police said, the gunfight broke out around 6 AM in the forest near Sitagota village under Baghnadi police station area when a team of District Reserve Guard was out on an anti-Naxal operation.

“We have recovered seven bodies of Maoists and searching of the area is going on. One AK-47 is recovered which means that a commander level cadre of CPI (Maoists) is killed in the encounter but identification is yet to be made,” Director General of Police (DGP) DM Awasthi told reporters.

On July 27, seven Maoists, including three women cadres, were killed in an encounter with security forces in the jungles of Jagadalpur district in Chhattisgarh, bordering Odisha. Seven weapons, including one Insas rifle and four .303 rifles were also recovered from the spot.
