Senior Congress Leader AK Walia Dies Due To Covid-19
New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and former Delhi minister AK Walia passed away at the age of 72 due to Covid-19 on Thursday. He was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Delhi.
He served as the State Minister in Sheila Dikshit’s government and held Health, Urban Development, Land & Building portfolios. He was also the Chairman of Trans Yamuna Area Development Board.
Walia was four-time MLA in the year 1993-2013. He represented Geeta Colony assembly seat for the first three terms and later won from Laxmi Nagar.
He was Born and raised in New Delhi and received a MBBS degree from MGM Medical College Indore in 1972. He was a physician by profession and owns a nursing home in East Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar area.
In April 2017, ahead of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, Walia quit the party after being denied a ticket. It was a big shock to the party as he had a considerable popularity in East Delhi. However, after the elections Walia returned to the Congress.
