SC Allows P. Chidambaram To Withdraw Plea Challenging Arrest

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today allowed former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram to withdraw a plea challenging his arrest and custodial interrogation in the INX Media corruption case lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Earlier today, the apex court bench comprising Justices R Banumathi and AS Bopanna rejected the senior Congress leader’s anticipatory bail in the INX Media money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Following the order, Chidambaram pleaded to withdraw his plea challenging the arrest and custodial interrogation by CBI.

The minister has no protection against judicial custody now. If the ED seeks custody, Chidambaram will be remanded with the probe agency or he will be lodged in Tihar jail.

Chidambaram’s counsel shall file for regular bail before the appropriate court to prevent his judicial custody as his CBI custody lapses later today.

He will be produced before the CBI court later today.
