Rishi Kumar Shukla takes charge as CBI Director

New Delhi: Rishi Kumar Shukla took charge as the Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday. He took charge from M. Nageshwara Rao, who was working as Interim Chief of the Investigation Agency.

Shukla, a 1983-batch IPS officer of Madhya Pradesh Cadre, has taken charge at a time when the probe agency is in a turf war with the Kolkata police, which has spiralled into a political slugfest between the Central government and the West Bengal government.

It remains to be seen whether Shukla’s arrival will bring order in the agency, which has moved the Supreme Court to challenge the West Bengal government’s action in multi-crore chit fund scam cases.

Shukla will serve in the post for a period of two years. The High Level Committee chaired by Prime Minister had approved the appointment of Mr Shukla to the post on Saturday.
