RIP Sushma Swaraj: Most Followed Woman Politician, Foreign Min In The World

New Delhi: With over 11 million Twitter followers in 2018, BJP stalwart and former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who passed away on Tuesday evening due to a cardiac arrest, was the most followed woman politician in the world.

With 10 million followers, Queen Rania of Jordan was the second most followed woman leader, according to a report by PR firm Burston Marsteller in their ‘Twiplomacy 2018’ report.

In 2019, Sushma Swaraj had over 13.1 million followers. According to the Twiplomacy report, US President Donald Trump topped the list with 52 million followers, followed by the Pope. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the third most followed leader with 42.56 million followers, while Sushma Swaraj took the eighth spot.

Sushma Swaraj was also the most followed foreign minister in the world.

Born on February 14, 1952, Sushma Swaraj passed away at the age of 67 in Delhi. She was brought to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) around 9:30 pm on Tuesday and was straight away taken to the emergency ward. Doctors tried to revive her for about an hour but she passed away at 10:50 pm, a senior doctor at AIIMS said.
