Rajasthan Imposes Lockdown From May 10 Due To Surge In Covid-19 Cases

Jaipur: Due to the surge in Covid-19 cases in Rajasthan, a lockdown has been imposed in the state from May 10 till May 24, announced Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. The decision was taken in a virtual state cabinet meeting held on Thursday evening.

The lockdown will be effective from 5 am on May 10 to 5 am on May 24. During this period, all intrastate travel will be banned.

The government has also imposed restrictions on wedding events which will be effective till May 31. The advance booking amount that has been given to marriage gardens, bands etc. will be either returned or adjusted later.

However, weddings in courts or at home in the presence of a maximum of 11 people are permitted. The family that is organizing the wedding will have to submit details at covidinfo.rajasthan.gov.in.

The following are the list of key decisions made during cabinet meeting for the lockdown:

  1. There will be a strict lockdown in Rajasthan from 5 am on May 10 to 5 am on May 24.
  2. There will be a ban on organizing any wedding till May 31. No permission will be granted for any wedding-related event in this period.
  3. Permission will be given for court marriages and to organize weddings at home with the condition that more than 11 people will not be allowed to participate in it. The family where the wedding is being organized will have to submit details at Covidinfo.rajasthan.gov.in.
  4. No permission will be given to employ DJ, sound system, catering service etc. for these weddings.
  5. Owners of marriage halls, catering and tent service providers will have to either return the advance amount paid by customers for weddings in this period or mutually agree to organize the wedding at a later date.
  6. In rural areas, since several labourers have tested positive for Covid-19, all MGNREGA-related works will remain suspended till further orders.
  7. All religious places will remain closed during the lockdown.
  8. All private and public vehicles except those engaged in medical services will remain off-road during the lockdown.
  9. Inter and intra-state movement of goods and commodities will be permitted.
  10. All intra-state travels between districts, cities and villages will be barred during the lockdown except for medical and other emergency services.
  11. Any person visiting the state from any other state will have to produce a negative RT-PCR report that is not older than 72 hours.
  12. Anyone who does not provide a negative RT-PCR report will be quarantined for 15 days.
  13. To prevent migrant workers from returning to their native states, all industrial and construction activities will be permitted during the lockdown.
  14. Shops dealing in construction-related products and services will be allowed to operate.

The medical departments will issue separate guidelines regarding attendants caring for hospitalized Covid-19 patients.

Rajasthan on Thursday reported 17,532 new cases, 16,044 recoveries and 161 deaths, the state health department informed.

The total cases now stands at 7,02,568, including 4,99,376 recoveries, 5,182 deaths and 1,98,010 active cases.
