In a horrifying incident, a Dalit woman was allegedly raped and set on fire in Rajasthan’s Barmer district, police said on Friday.

Rajasthan: In a horrifying incident, a Dalit woman was allegedly raped and set on fire in Rajasthan’s Barmer district, police said on Friday.

The 44-year-old victim, who also suffered around 50 per cent burn injuries, is undergoing treatment in a government hospital in Jodhpur, they said.

The accused was identified as Shakoor Khan, who trespassed into her house and raped her. After the incident, the accused felt that the woman would reveal his identity, so he poured thinner on the woman, set her afire, and fled from the spot.

A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the police added.
