Rajasthan: 13 Dead, 15 Injured As Truck Runs Over Wedding Procession

Jaipur: As many as 13 people were killed and 15 others sustained grievous injuries after being mowed down by a truck in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh late on Monday night.

The incident occurred at Pratapgarh-Jaipur Highway in Ambawali village, about 417 kilometres from state capital Jaipur. The truck was going to Banswara from Nimbahera. The DSP said the truck driver apparently could not see the procession.

According to sources, the people who were mowed down by the truck were walking on the side of the road as part of ”bindoli,” a wedding procession, when the accident took place.

While nine people were killed on the spot, four died on the way to a hospital. 15 people, including the bride, have been injured and they have been referred to hospital, a police official said.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed grief at the incident. Taking to Twitter, he wrote- “Deeply saddened to hear about the tragic accident on NH-113 in Chhoti Sadri, #Pratapgarh in which many people have lost their lives and several have been injured. My heartfelt condolences to the grieved families. I pray for speedy recovery of injured people. #Rajasthan”
