Rahul Gandhi Watches ‘Article 15’ At Delhi Multiplex

New Delhi: After formally stepping down as the Congress president, Rahul Gandhi watched Ayushmann Khurrana’s ‘Article 15’ at PVR Chanakya in Delhi on Wednesday. A video of him enjoying the film was shared on social media by a photographer and it is going viral.

Netizens were bowled over by Gandhi’s gesture of watching the film at a theatre like everyone else. “It’s really nice to see him. Such a humble and nicest (sic) person,” one Instagram user commented. “It’s nice to see a prominent political figure watch a movie with such an important message like this,” another wrote.

On Wednesday, Gandhi resigned as the president of Congress, taking responsibility for the party’s dismal performance in the Lok Sabha polls. “As president of the Congress party, I am responsible for the loss of the 2019 election. Accountability is critical for the future growth of our party. It is for this reason that I have resigned as Congress president,” he wrote in a four-page letter shared on his Twitter account.

Gandhi also declined the requests of several party members to nominate the next president. “While it is important for someone new to lead our party, it would not be correct for me to select that person,” he wrote, adding that he was asked the working committee of his party to appoint his successor.

Despite senior leaders requesting him to continue as the party chief, Gandhi stood firm in his decision and emphasised the need for the Congress to “radically transform itself”.
