New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has entered active politics for the first time ahead of the Lok Sabha elections due by May. She has been appointed Congress general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh east.
Priyanka ‘s new position was announced in a press statement that also said Jyotiraditya Scindia will be in charge of western UP. KC Venugopal has been appointed as party’s chief general secretary.
Congress leaders say Priyanka Gandhi’s plunge into active party politics will galvanise the ranks to make them prepared for the massive dual challenge posed by the BJP and the SP-BSP alliance in Uttar Pradesh.
Till now, 47-year-old was confined her role in politics to Amethi and Raebareli- Lok Sabha constituencies of her brother Rahul Gandhi and mother Sonia Gandhi respectively.
