Priyanka Chaturvedi quits Congress, joins Shiv Sena

Mumbai: Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi resigned from all the posts in the grand old party and joined Shiv Sena here on Friday. She joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of the party president Uddhav Thackeray.

Last evening, Chaturvedi sent her resignation to Congress president Rahul Gandhi la. In her letter, she said, despite the safety, dignity and empowerment of women being promoted by the party, is not reflected in the action of some of the members.

Chaturvedi, who was convenor of the Congress media cell, was miffed at the reinstatement of some party workers in Uttar Pradesh who had threatened and misbehaved with her during her press conference in Mathura a few days ago.

Addressing a press conference along with Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray here, Chaturvedi today said, “Happy that the Sena has taken me in as a family member. I am thankful to Uddhavji and Adityaji.”

However, Twitterati slammed the former Congress leader for her ideological jump within 12 hours.

“That is quite an ideological jump. Nothing surprises in Indian politics anymore – no permanent friends, no permanent enemies,” senior journalist Nidhi Razdan tweeted.
