President, PM and other leaders pay tribute to Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to senior BJP leader and former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at her residence here on Wednesday morning.

PM Modi got emotional while paying tribute to Swaraj, who suffered a massive cardiac arrest last night. She was 67.

 

Leaders across party lines also paid last respects to the departed leader at her residence. The prominent among them include former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, BJP veteran LK Advani, senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi , BJP national working president JP Nadda and BSP Chief Mayawati.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa, Kerala’s former CM Oommen Chandy, Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi and Yoga Gurur Ramdev also paid homage to the astute leader.

Sushma Swaraj’s mortal remains are being kept at her residence for people to pay their last respects and later will be brought to BJP Headquarters for the people to pay their last respects. Her last rites will be performed with full State honours at Lodhi Road Crematorium here after 3 PM, sources said.
