President Kovind invites Modi to form Govt

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday appointed Narendra Modi to the office of Prime Minister of India.

The President has also requested Modi to advise him about the names of others to be appointed members of the Union Council of Ministers and indicate the date and time of the swearing-in-ceremony to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Earlier today, the newly elected MPs of BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) elected Modi as its leader.

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Prakash Singh Badal proposed Mr Modi’s name as the leader of NDA and JDU leader Nitish Kumar, Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray and Lok Janshakti Party leader Ram Vilas Paswan and AIADMK leader EK Palaniswami endorsed the proposal.

Addressing the NDA leaders in Central Hall of the Parliament,  Modi said, people have accepted NDA because of its work. He said, the nation rewards hard work and honesty and it is the strength of this country.

The BJP on Thursday scripted history by becoming the second political party in the Indian history to come back to power, even stronger this time.

While the BJP has won 303 seats, the NDA has 351 members in the Lok Sabha.
