President Droupadi Murmu, PM Modi congratulate Team India for winning T20 World Cup 2024

New Delhi: After India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy, President of India, Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have congratulated the team for bringing pride to the nation.

Taking to her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, President Droupadi Murmu tweeted, “My heartiest congratulations to Team India for winning the T20 World Cup. With the never-say-die spirit, the team sailed through difficult situations and demonstrated outstanding skills throughout the tournament. It was an extraordinary victory in the final match. Well done, Team India! We are proud of you!”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to his official X handle and shared a video with a caption that read, “CHAMPIONS! Our team brings the T20 World Cup home in STYLE! We are proud of the Indian Cricket Team. This match was HISTORIC.” In the video, he was heard saying, “Congratulations to India for this magnificent win. Today, 140 crore countrymen are proud of your fantastic performance. You won the World Cup and also the hearts of crores of Indians. Team India didn’t lose even one match; that’s not a small feat. You have achieved a spectacular victory. I congratulate you.”


It is worth mentioning here that India created history by defeating South Africa in the do-or-die final match and bringing back the World Cup after 17 years. India had last won the T20 World Cup in 2007 under the captainship of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. With this win, Indian Captain Rohit Sharma has ended India’s drought for an International trophy.
