Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana achieves 6 crore mark

New Delhi: Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu handed over the 6 croreth LPG connection under Pradhan Mantri UjjwalaYojana (PMUY) here on Wednesday.

Jasmina Khatoon, a resident of Shivpark in Khanpur area of the national capital here received the symbolic cooking gas connection. Many other beneficiaries were also provided with the connection under the scheme.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Prsident said, said that PMUY endeavours to fulfill the dream of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi to benefit the poor persons, the persons in the last row of the society. He congratulated all the stakeholders in achieving the target, well before the schedule.

On his part, Pradhan said that in the fifty years since the launch of LPG, only 13 crore connections were provided while in the last 54 months, almost similar number of connections have been provided by this government.

The Narendra Modi Government launched PMUY on 1st May, 2016 and it is implemented by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas through its Oil Marketing Companies i.e., IOC, BPCL and HPCL through their network of distributors across the country.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has hailed the successful implementation of PMUY terming it as a decisive intervention to check the indoor health pollution being faced by the women of the country.
