Poll Violence: Miscreants attack election flying squad in Pipili, 5 injured

Puri: In a matter of concern ahead of 3rd phase polling, members of a particular political party attacked an election flying squad in Pipili Assembly Constituency here last night and left five officials injured.

The injured officials have been identified as flying squad Magistrates Rabi Narayan Patra and Bijay Kumar Kar, videographers Purna Chandra Dash and Sushant Pradhan and Police ASI Binay Kumar Das.

The attack took place last night after a joint team of poll flying squad, static surveillance team and video surveillance raided the venue, a farm house, of a feast arranged by a particular poll candidate to woo voters. Liquor and money was also being distributed at the spot.

During the raid the supporters of the leader went berserk and started beating them mercilessly. The video team also lost a camera to the attack as that got badly damaged.

All the injured were first taken to Pipili Community Health Centre (CHC) from where Patra was later shifted to Capital Hospital for treatment.

Puri Collector and SP also reached to the spot and took stock of the situation later in the night.

Police have started investigation into the incident.
