PM Narendra Modi declares January 16 as National Startup Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced that January 16 will be celebrated as ‘National Startup Day’ during his interaction with over 150 startups across different sectors via video conferencing as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The prime minister said that startups are going to be the backbone of new India. He added that from now on, January 16 is going to be celebrated as National Startup Day.

The Prime Minister during his speech said that, “Our startups are changing the rules of the game. I believe that startups are going to be the backbone of India. I congratulate all the start-ups, all the youth, who are raising the flag of India in the world of start-ups. For this culture of start-ups to reach the far-flung parts of the country, it has been decided to celebrate January 16 as National Start-up Day”.

PM Modi said that the government is planning to make some big changes in startups policies.

Prasar Bharati quoted the PM and reported that the Indian startup ecosystem will see new horizons in this year 2022. When India will complete 100 years of independence, the startups is going to play a big role.

The Prime Minister has also urged the startups to approach the semi-urban and rural areas to launch new projects as they have huge potential.

“I urge startups to work towards building rural India. It will not only come with challenges but also huge potential,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi said to the participants to make their dreams global, don’t keep them local. He urged the participants to innovate for India and from India during the interaction.

The Prime Minister praised the growth of the startup sector in India over the past few years. PM Modi said that there’s at least one startup in at least 625 districts across India.

He also added that the ongoing startup campaign has improved India’s ranking in the Global Innovation Index a lot. India’s ranking in Global Innovation Index has risen from 81 to 46 in the Innovation Index, reported Prasar Bharati.

The Amrit Mahotsav is a week-long event “Celebrating Innovation Ecosystem”, which is hosted by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, ANI reported.
