Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday in a series of tweets urged Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik and other party leaders and dignitaries to improve participation in “voting across the country in the coming elections.”

The Election Commission of India announced General Elections and also Lok Sabha elections for 91 constituencies in 20 states beginning from April 11. Counting of all phases will be held on 23rd May.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a series of tweets urged dignitaries from various strata in improving voting turnout for upcoming elections.

He tagged AICC president Rahul Gandhi, TMC head Mamta Bannerjee, Congress’ Sharad Pawar, BSP’s Mayawati, SP’s Akhilesh Yadav, RJD’s Tejaswi Yadav and DMK’s MK Stalin.

Honourable PM urged Telangana CM K. Chandrashekar Rao, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, Andhra’s N Chandrababu Naidu, Leader of Opposition in AP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy “to work towards bringing maximum Indians to the polling booths”.

He solicited “support and active participation in improving voting across the country” from Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan, Sikkim CM Pawan Chamling.

Social activists like Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi, Kiran Bedi, the international sand artist from Odisha Sudarshan Pattnaik, and spiritual gurus like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Sadhguru and Swami Ramdev were requested by the PM to “inspire people towards greater democratic participation. ”

Wrestlers Yogeswar Dutt, Sushil Kumar, Badminton stars Srikanth Kidambi, PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, “prolific” Phogat sisters, cricketing legends Anil Kumble, VVS Kumble, Virendra Sehwag, and current cricket team members MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were asked by Narendra Modi to contribute to high voting turnout.

India’s leading journalists Rahul Kanwal, Sudhir Chaudhary, Anjana Om Kashyam, Rubika Liyaquat, and veterans of media world Rajat Sharma, Subash Chandra and Vineet Jain were called upon by PM “to spread awareness on voter registration.”

The stars from the entertainment industry such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Karan Johar, Salman Khan, Amir Khan to ensure an impressive turnout in upcoming elections.

Lastly, he addressed Indians so that we come together and “ensure maximum number of Indians come out to vote in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.”
