PM Modi to launch PM-KISAN scheme in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur today

Uttar Pradesh: Marking the launch of the Central Government’s Rs 75,000-crore farmer assistance scheme, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), PM Narendra Modi will transfer the first instalment of monetary assistance to the beneficiaries’ account in Gorakhpur of Uttar Pradesh today.

PM will launch the scheme from the Fertilizer Corporation of India ground by pressing a button to electronically transfer the first instalment of Rs 2,000 to over one crore farmers, a government report said yesterday.

The PM-KISAN scheme which had been announced under the interim Budget 2019-20, entitles Small and Marginal Farmers (SMFs) to get a monetary assistance of Rs 6,000 annually in three instalments in Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode for greater transparency.

Roughly, 12 crore small and marginal farmers holding cultivable land up to two hectares will be benefitted by the PM-KISAN scheme. The assistance will enable the farmers to address their need of procuring various agricultural inputs and eliminate the chance of their exploitation in the hands of local moneylenders.

While the existing land-ownership system in the concerned states and Union Territories will be used for identification of beneficiaries, whose names appear in land records as on February 1, 2019 will be chosen by the provincial government for the scheme.
