PM Modi inaugurates slew of projects in Varanasi

Varanasi:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation several projects worth 2413 crore rupees including two National Highways and an inland waterways terminal on River Ganga here in Uttar Pradesh on Monday evening.

The total length of the two NHs is 34 kilometres and they have been constructed at a cost of over 1,500 crore rupees. An official release said, the over 16 kilometres Varanasi Ring Road Phase-I has been completed at a cost of over 750 crores, while the 17-kilometre Babatpur-Varanasi road was constructed at a cost of over 800 crore rupees.

The Babatpur Airport highway will link Varanasi to the airport and go on to Jaunpur, Sultanpur and Lucknow.

With a flyover at Harhua and a road overbridge at Tarna, it will reduce the travel time from Varanasi to the airport.

This will prove a big relief to the people of Varanasi and to tourists and other visitors to the city.

ModiThese projects will also provide increased employment opportunities, development of small and medium industries and give a boost to economic development in the area.

During his one day visit to his parliamentary constituency, Modi also inaugurated an Inland Multi-Modal Terminal Port constructed at the cost of 207 crore rupees on river Ganga at Ramnagar this afternoon.

This is the first of the four Multi-Modal Terminals being constructed on National Waterways-I on River Ganga as part of the World Bank-aided Jal Marg Vikas project of the Inland Waterways Authority of India.

The project aims the development of the stretch between river Ganga and Varanasi for the navigation of large vessels. The other three terminals are under construction at Sahibganj, Haldia and Gazipur.

In a major push to India’s Inland Waterways Transportation sector, the Prime Minister also received a large container vessel which travelled for the first time on Inland Waterways in the country.
