PM Modi attends International Abhidhamma Divas, vows to keep Pali alive

New Delhi: PM Modi attended the celebration of the International Abhidhamma Divas and recognition of the Pali as a classical language on October 17.

According to reports, addressing the International Abhidhamma Divas programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told, “Language is the soul of civilization and culture. Therefore, it is the responsibility of all of us to keep the Pali language alive.”

The Prime Minister then went on to speak about Gautama Buddha and said, “to keep the words of Lord Buddha alive with its original values. I am happy that our government has fulfilled this responsibility with great humility…”

Abhidhamma Divas commemorates the descent of Lord Buddha from the celestial realm after teaching Abhidhamma.
