Pakistan to release Wing Commander Abhinandan today

New Delhi: Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot Abhinandan Varthaman will be released today by Pakistan. Wing Commander Abhinandan will be brought back through the Wagah-Attari joint check-post in Amritsar, sources said.

IAF has said that it is looking forward to the return of Abhinandan from Pakistan’s custody.

In a joint briefing with Officials of Army and Navy here last evening, Air Vice Marshal RGK Kapoor said that IAF learnt that Pakistan has announced that Wing Commander Abhinandan will be returned to India today.

Yesterday, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced to release the fighter pilot as a peace gesture while addressing in the Pakistan National Assembly.

The development came almost two days after Pakistan captured Abhinandan after his MiG-21 Bison fighter jet was shot down in action with Pakistan Air Force jets near the LoC.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has offered to receive Abhinandan Varthaman at the Attari border.
