Delhi: Padma Shri awardee and eminent Odissi dance exponent Guru Mayadhar Raut was evicted from his house in Delhi recently. The 92 year old Odissi Guru was living in the Government accomodation in the Asian Games Village of Delhi.

As per reports, the Directorate of Estates officials evicted the Padma Shri awardee without serving a prior notice, claimed his daughter Madhumita Rout.

Rout had been allotted a government accommodation in the Asian Games village in Delhi in 1990.  However, the rule of this allotment scheme was changed in the year 2008 and on this basis the central govt had issued notice in 2020 to the dwellers of these houses to evict it.

Then, 20 persons including Rout had been directed to vacate their houses. Accordingly, they had moved to Court in this matter. This year on February 2, a single judge Bench of Delhi High Court had sustained the eviction order. This order has been challenged in the Division Bench.

It is perfectly right for them to be evicted. It is high time that such people are not encouraged in the future.
