P Chidambaram to be produced before CBI special court today

New Delhi: Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram who had been arrested by CBI from his Jor Bagh house last night over his alleged involvement in INX media scam of 2007 will be produced before a Special CBI Court here today.

Post his arrest, amidst a high drama and protest by Congress activists, the former finance minister was grilled by the CBI sleuths at its headquarters all night. He had evaded the CBI arrest after the Delhi High Court dismissed Chidambaram’s anticipatory bail plea in the INX media case.

Notably, CBI officials scaled the boundary wall of Chidambaram’s house to arrest him last night amidst deployment of Delhi Police and paramilitary forces to maintain law and order. He was later taken to the CBI headquarters.

Chidambaram has been accused of facilitating a huge infusion of foreign funds into a television company, INX Media, in 2007 at the behest of his son Karti Chidambaram, who has dubbed his father’s arrest as a political conspiracy.
