Orange alert issued as heavy rain batters Uttarakhand
The IMD had warned very heavy rains for the state of Uttarakhand, issuing an orange alert as landslides and falling debris have also been occurring.
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Nainital and Bageshwar districts with a prediction of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas in Uttarakhand.
A yellow alert has been issued for Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag and Chamoli.
Due to relentless rain, landslides and rolling debris have blocked both the Badrinath National Highway and the route of the Kedarnath yatra for a short period.
Later, traffic was resumed with the deployment of heavy machinery by the authorities to remove debris.
In the wake of the weather forecast, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) has asked district administrations to maintain a high alert and take necessary precautions to keep citizens safe.
