Opposition to meet ECI over EVM after Exit Poll predictions

New Delhi: Representatives of 21 opposition parties, including the Congress, will meet Election Commission (EC) officials on Tuesday to address any mismatch between VVPATs and EVM tallies. With all major Exit Poll results touting that BJP and its alliance will form the next government, the Opposition seems a bit shaken at the result.

Representatives of the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party, the Samajwadi Party, the Janata Dal(S) and the Left parties are expected to be in the delegation, said Opposition politicians who spoke on condition of anonymity.

However, The Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, who is as convinced as Telugu Desam Party head N Chandrababu Naidu and other opposition leaders that the exit polls did not capture the public sentiment, is learnt to have been of the view that going to President Kovind to ask him to treat the opposition parties as one bloc at this stage would not serve a purpose.

Opposition parties have been complaining about EVM malfunctioning and were demanding ballot polls even before the 2019 general elections. Most of the exit polls yesterday have predicted BJP-led NDA govt to come to power again.
