Online dating goes wrong! Mumbai man scammed Rs 61,000
Mumbai: People are often get scammed on online dating sites. Such a similar incident has recently occurred in Mumbai’s Andheri West where a man was forced to pay a bill of Rs 61,000 during a date with partner he met online.
The scam reportedly occurred at The Godfather Club in Mumbai. The incident came to the fore after an activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj took to her X (formerly Twitter) handle and shared post on a scam that has left several men out of pocket.
As per the post shared by the activist, the scam begins innocently enough on popular dating apps like Tinder, Bumble, Hinge and OKCupid. Men come in contact with women who quickly express interest in meeting up.
The women choose the venue and order expensive items such as high-end liquor or hookah, none of which appear on the menu. To impress their partner, men fall into the looming financial trap.
After order being placed, the accused women leave the place citing an emergency, leaving the men to face the exorbitant bill. These bills involve price ranging from Rs 23,000 to Rs 61,000.
When the victim refuse to pay, they are reportedly threatened by the club’s staff or bouncers, forcing them to settle the bill out of fear and humiliation. This is not the only location where such scams occurs. The activist has revealed that there are many such places in the city where men are getting scammed.
After the post went viral, the Mumbai police has initiated probe into the matter. Further detailed reports related to the incident are awaited.
