Now no need of registration on CoWIN, walk-in allowed from January 10

New-Delhi: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday said that there is no need for new registration on CoWIN app. The beneficiaries can directly book an online appointment or walk in to any vaccination centre, said a source in the ministry.

The schedules will be published on January 8. The online appointment facility will start from tomorrow (Saturday) evening. Vaccination with on-site appointment starts on January 10,” said the source.

On December 25, On December 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced precaution dose for the health  care and frontline workers as well as the co-morbid seniors from January 10, and vaccination of children in the 15-18 years age group from January 3.

How to register for a precaution dose?

  • All the senior citizens aged 60 years or above will get the precaution dose using their current Co-WIN Account.
  • Beneficiaries can register in advance, on site or through the Co-WIN registration
  • Verification will be done using the Adhar
  • The eligiblity will be based on the date of administration of the second dose in the Co-WIN system.
  • Registration and appointment services will be available in both online and offline formats.

Meanwhile, the health ministry said India’s vaccination coverage crossed 150 crore doses on Friday. “In a landmark achievement, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 150 crore (1,50,52,21,314) today. More than 81 lakh (81,50,982) vaccine doses have been administered till 7 pm today. The daily vaccination tally is expected to increase with the compilation of the final reports for the day by late tonight,” the ministry said in a statement.

“A remarkable day on the vaccination front! Congratulations to our fellow citizens on crossing the 150 crore milestone. Our vaccination drive has ensured that many lives are saved. At the same time, let us also keep following all Covid-19 related protocol,” PM Modi tweeted.
