No Mismatch In EVM-VVPAT Tally: Election Commission

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) said here on Saturday that no mismatch between EVM vote count and VVPAT slips were reported from anywhere in the country.

“We have got no reports of any mismatch in tallying of EVM results with VVPAT slips from any of the 542 constituencies as per reports of the chief electoral officers (CEOs),” said a senior ECI official.

The opposition had launched an aggressive campaign against the credibility of EVMs and VVPATs and demanded 100% tallying to counter alleged manipulation of EVMs.

Noteworthy, this was the first Lok Sabha election where each EVM was 100% backed by a VVPAT. Physical verification of VVPAT slips was done for five machines in each assembly constituency. As per the Supreme Court’s orders, physical verification of VVPAT slips with the EVM count was done for over 20,000 polling machines on May 23 before the declaration of results.
