Nitish Kumar urges Naveen Patnaik to support JDU candidate for RS Deputy Chair Election

Bhubaneswar: Bihar Chief Minister and JD-U leader Nitish Kumar on Tuesday telephoned Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik requesting the support of BJD for his party lawmaker and NDA candidate Harivansh Narayan Singh in the election to the post of Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha.

Sources said, Patnaik told his Bihar counterpart that he will take a final decision in this regard on Wednesday.

The current strength of Rajya Sabha is 244 and support of 123 members would be needed for a win in the full house. BJD has nine members in the Upper House.

The Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha will be elected on August 9.
