Nirav Modi arrested in London

London: Fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi, a prime accused in the multi-crore Punjab National Bank scam, was arrested in central London on Tuesday. This was informed by the Enforcement Directorate.

“Nirav Deepak Modi, 48 (Date of Birth 24.02.71), was arrested on behalf of the Indian authorities on Tuesday in Holborn. He will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement, new agency PTI reported.

Nirav’s arrest came a day after the Westminster Magistrate Court in London issued a warrant against him days after British home secretary Sajid Javid certified India’s request to extradite him to face charges of financial irregularities.

Nirav Modi, who went absconding after the Rs 13,500 PNB fraud case with his involvement came to the fore, was recently tracked by UK’s Telegraph newspaper in London.

According to the media reports, the PNB scam accused was reportedly living in a high-end flat from where he was running a diamond business.
