New Delhi: Newly elected MPs of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA)  formally elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their leader at a meeting in the Central Hall of Parliament this evening.

Prior to this, BJP MPs met separately at Parliament House.

The BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, scripted history by becoming the second political party in the Indian history to come back to power, even stronger this time.

While the BJP has won 303 seats, the NDA has 351 members in the Lok Sabha.

This is the first time that a non-Congress party is taking over at the Centre for the second term consecutively.

Earlier on the day, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora met the President at Rashtrapati Bhawan and submitted the list of winners of the Lok Sabha polls.

The term of the present Lok Sabha ends on June 3.
