New Innings for Gautam Gambhir? May contest election from Delhi

New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir may just be on the verge of the second innings of his life. The Padma Shri awardee may be pitched by Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) to fight for a seat in New Delhi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The former captain of Delhi’s Ranji Team has always been very vocal about his opinions regarding policies and polity of the nation and has taken to social media to express his views. He might have faced criticism for some of his remarks but he has definitely caught the ruling party’s attention. Gambhir has also been very critical of AAP’s policies in Delhi which just gives a boost to the speculations regarding BJP pitching for Gautam Gambhir.

If all the chips fall in place, Gautam Gambhir will join the list of cricketers turned politicians. The list already features  Navjot Singh Sidhu, Kirti Azad and Mohammad Azharuddin.

With elections just around the corner, the BJP has started working round the clock with an aim to secure its seven Parliamentary constituencies and win more in Delhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The Election Commission will soon announce the schedule for the upcoming general election – likely to be spread over seven-eight phases in April-May.
