Nation pays tribute to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on his 87th birth anniversary

New Delhi: The nation on Monday paid tributes to the most celebrated President – Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on his 87th birth anniversary. The former President is fondly recognized as the Missile Man of India’ and ‘People’s President’.

Renowned sand sculptor Sudarsan Pattnaik paid tribute to the former President, creating a beautiful sand art at Puri sea beach in Odisha.

Born on October 15, 1931 in a poor Tamil Muslim family in Rameswaram, Dr Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam served as the India’s 11th President between 2002 and 2007.

In his lifetime, Kalam had received doctorates from 48 universities, including the University of Edinburgh and the Carnegie Mellon University.

Kalam, a Bharat Ratna-recipient, was responsible for the development and operationalisation of AGNI and PRITHVI Missiles and for building indigenous capability in critical technologies through networking of multiple institutions.

Kalam died on 27 July 2015 at IIM Shillong while delivering a lecture to students.
