Mumbai teen dies after eating shawarma, 2 vendors arrested

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a teenager died after eating chicken shawarma bought from a roadside vendor in Trombay in Mumbai and the police have arrested two vendors.

The deceased teen has been identified as Prathamesh Bhokse, residents of Maharashtra Nagar.

Reports say, Prathamesh (19)along with his uncle Hameed Abbas Syed (40) brought and ate shawarma from a food stall on May 3. On May 4, Bhokse suffered from severe stomach ache and vomiting and he was immediately admitted to the municipal hospital for medical aid.

Later, again he fell unwell, following which his family members took him to the KEM hospital in Parel on May 5. A doctor attended and treated him and asked him to go back home.

As his health condition deteriorated, he was again taken to the same hospital where he was examined. He was immediately admitted and then he died while undergoing treatment.

The hospital authorities then reported the matter to the police who registered an FIR against unidentified persons under Indian Penal Code sections 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 273 (sale of noxious food or drink), the official said.

On being informed about the incident, the Trombay police arrested the two vendors Anand Kamble and Ahmed Sheikh and booked them under various IPC sections, including 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
