Mumbai Heavy Rains: BMC declares holiday in Mumbai schools, colleges
Mumbai: The Birhanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a holiday in all schools, and colleges in Mumbai after a red alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department due to heavy rainfall.
“BMC appeals to schools and the teachers to inform the representatives of guardians; and take necessary precautions and ensure proper coordination at the school level,” the civic body added.
Also, the schools in various districts of Maharashtra including Raigarh, Pune, Palghar, and Thane, and Pimpri have been closed.
As the Ulhas river is flowing above the danger mark on Thursday afternoon. Several areas in Kalyan, Thane, Bhiwandi, Dombivali, Vasai, Nalasopara, Mira Bhayander and Ulhasnagar are now flooded.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert warning for Mumbai till tomorrow morning 8:30 am. The weather department has predicted ‘heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places” in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured on Thursday afternoon that the flood-like situation in Pune and nearby areas was ‘under control’.
