Missing Indian student found dead in Finland after two months, family seeks probe
An 18-year-old Hyderabad student who had been missing in Finland since May, was found dead in the sea off the coast of Helsinki.
New Delhi: An 18-year-old Hyderabad student who had been missing in Finland since May was found dead in the sea off the coast of Helsinki.
An 18-year-old Indian student, Manideep Reddy, who was reported missing in Finland for more than two months, has been found dead in the sea off Helsinki.
Manideep was a bachelor’s student in Software and Systems Engineering at Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT University).
Finnish police said that Manideep was last seen on May 5 after taking a trip from Lahti to Helsinki.
According to CCTV images, the student visited Helsinki Central Railway Station and a supermarket in the Kruunuvuorenranta neighborhood.
The body was retrieved from the sea off the Finnish capital on July 9, and the student’s belongings, found alongside, assisted the police in his identification.
In a statement, the NBI of Finland stated that no crime was suspected based on the initial examination and that the precise cause of death was still unknown.
The family of Manideep, however, raised questions over the findings, stating the circumstances around his death are suspicious
They have asked for an investigation into the matter due to several unanswered questions.
The Finnish authorities’ investigation is in process.
