Militants Escape After Encounter With Security Forces In Jammu & Kashmir

Srinagar: Militants escaped after a brief gun battle with security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday. The brief exchange of fire erupted after security forces started a cordon and search in Sangran village of Shopian district early in the morning after receiving a tip-off about the presence of militants.

According to Police, as the security forces tried to overpower the militants, they opened fire and immediately escaped. The security forces also responded to the firing which continued for a brief period.

Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir Police held ten men who were JeM associates. They were arrested from Tral and Khrew areas of Pulwama.

So far, 227 militants have been killed in different parts of Kashmir. In November itself, 37 militants have been killed in encounters across Kashmir. The slained militants include Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Naveed Jatt, who played a key role in the assassination of Shujaat Bukhari in June who was shot dead last Wednesday in Budgam district.
