Migrant workers from Koraput trapped at brick kiln in Telangana

Koraput: 18 women labours including young girls are trapped in Telangana. The complaint has raised from Pisikadanga village under Laxmipur block and Chuchukana village of Koraput district.

Koraput: As per a complaint at least 18 women labourers, including young girls are being trapped in Telangana. Villagers of Pisikadanga village under Laxmipur block and Chuchukana village in Koraput district have lodged a complaint with Laxmipur BDO in this regard.

As per the complaint, 18 women had left their native village three months ago through a broker to work in JK Pur of Rayagada district. However, without their consent, they were later sent to Hyderabad via Visakhapatnam to work in a brick kiln.

The broker has allegedly taken the workers’ wage in advance from the owner of the kiln. The broker was supposed to send this advance money to the family of these labourers. However, neither the broker has handed over the money to the family members nor is he in contact with the labourers.

Family members of the trapped workers have intimated that the trapped workers want to return home but the kiln owner has restrained them. He wants them to work till the debt is cleared.

Being informed about the matter, District Collector of Koraput has sent a team constituting of the District Labour Officer, Child Welfare Officer and Laxmipur Police to the victims’ villages to inquire about the matter.

A five-member committee has moved for Hyderabad along with the family members to rescue the workers. Laxmipur police have assured that soon the victims will be rescued with the help of local police in Telangana.
