Manipur violence: CBI files chargesheet against 6 accused in case of parading women naked

The CBI has filed a chargesheet against six accused before the Special Judge in the Manipur viral video case at the CBI Court in Guwahati.

Manipur: In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against six accused and issued a report against one Child Conflict with the Law (CCL) before the Special Judge in the Manipur viral video case at the CBI Court in Guwahati.

The case was initiated at the request of the Manipur government and received further authorization from the Government of India. The CBI then took over the investigation of the case, which had its origins in the NSK Police station in Thoubal district.

The incident in question occurred on May 4, when a large group, estimated to be around 900 to 1000 people, entered B Phainom village in the Kangpokpi District of Manipur. This mob was armed with sophisticated weapons and allegedly engaged in destructive activities. They vandalised and set houses on fire, looted properties, assaulted villagers, committed murders, and sexually assaulted women. Additionally, two family members of one of the victims lost their lives during the incident.

After a thorough investigation, the CBI determined that the accused individuals were indeed involved in the events of that fateful day. On Monday, a chargesheet was filed before the Special Judge at the CBI Court in Guwahati, following the orders of the Supreme Court.

The investigation continues, including efforts to identify any other individuals involved in the offences as well as exploring various aspects of the case.
