Malegaon Blast Accused Sadhvi Pragya Thakur Joins BJP; May Contest Polls From Bhopal

Bhopal: Malegaon Blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Thakur has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and is likely to contest against senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal.

Thakur is a key accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast in which six people were killed and over 100 injured.

According to reports, she was chosen to fight the polls opposite Digvijaya Singh in Bhopal after senior BJP leaders Narendra Singh Tomar, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Uma Bharti showed disinterest in the contest.

Despite not confirming that she will be contesting from Bhopal, Sadhvi Pragya said Digvijaya Singh is no challenge for her. “I would contest and win for sure,” she said.

Notably, Thakur has been charged for her involvement in the Malegaon bomb blast and for being a part of a terror act under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

She is currently out on bail but has not been discharged by the NIA Court hearing the case.
