Maharashtra: 65-year-old man beaten to death after argument over IPL match, 2 arrested

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a 65-year-old man lost his life after two men allegedly attacked him following a heated argument over an IPL match. The incident was reported from Maharashtra’s Kolhapuri district, reliable reports said in this regard.

Reportedly, the man had a heated argument with the two accused over who would win one of the upcoming matches of IPL 2024. The deceased has been identified as Bandopant Tibile.

As per the information received, the incident took place prior to the match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 27. The victim and the accused had gathered at a place to watch the IPL match on March 27.

A light banter took an ugly turn after fans of both the playing teams started fighting over every moment of the match. The Maharashtra man was beaten to death for celebrating Rohit Sharma’s wicket.

Tibile, 65, sustained grave injuries in his head after he was badly thrashed by the accused. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention. He succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, while undergoing treatment.

The two accused men in the incident have been arrested. Meanwhile, officials from the Karveer police station have initiated a probe into the matter. Further details are awaited.
