Liquor claims 29 lives in Tamil Nadu, opposition demands CM’s resignation

Kallakurichi (Tamil Nadu): In a tragic piece of news, country liquor has claimed as many as 29 lives in Tamil Nadu, said reports on Thursday. In an X (formerly Twitter) post on his official twitter handle, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M.K.Stalin wrote in Tamil which roughly translates as, “I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of the deaths of people who had consumed adulterated liquor in Kallakurichi.”

“Those involved in the crime have been arrested in this matter. Action has also been taken against the officials who failed to prevent it,” the CM wrote.

He further said that, “Immediate action will be taken if the public informs about those involved in such crimes. Such crimes that ruin the society will be suppressed with an iron fist.”

It is worth mentioning here that, the number of deaths is expected to rise further. As many as 60 people are critical in this incident. 107 people have been admitted to the Kallakurichi Medical College Hospital.

Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi has also offered his condolences to the family of the deaceased and wished speedy recovery to the victims. On the other hand, the opposition has demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister. Tamil Nadu police have arrested a man in this connection and seized 200 litres of liquor. Later it was found that the alcohol contained menthol said a government press statement.
